Street and School Safety
FACT: Most children who are hit and killed by cars are playing in the street.
FACT: Brain injury is the leading cause of death among children hit by cars.
Now that school is in session, the amount of child traffic on our streets has increased. This is especially true in school areas between 8:15–9:00 a.m. and 2:30–3:45 p.m. When driving during these prime times, be sure to watch for children playing on the sides of the road, bicycling home, crossing the streets at marked and unmarked areas, and slipping out from between parked cars. Be aware of school buses and be certain to stop when the lights are flashing. Of course it is the parent's responsibility to teach children road safety, but children, often in the midst of play can be unaware of what is going on around them. So please look out for the safety and welfare of all our children!
